Penn State’s loss to Michigan proved to be the final straw for Mike Yurcich as the Nittany Lions’ offensive coordinator.

Less than 24 hours after scoring only 15 points on 238 yards against the Wolverines, Penn State fired Yurcich on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

The Nittany Lions’ offense was their undoing in both of their biggest games this season as Penn State scored only 12 points on 240 yards against Ohio State in October. Yurcich was also Penn State’s quarterback coach, and the Nittany Lions’ passing offense was bad in both games as Drew Allar completed just 18 of 42 passing attempts for 191 yards and a touchdown against Ohio State and went just 10-of-22 for 70 yards and a touchdown vs. Michigan.

Yurcich was hired as Penn State’s offensive coordinator in 2021. He was Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for one year in 2019, Ryan Day’s first year as head coach.

He becomes the second recent Ohio State assistant to be fired from a coordinator job at another school over the past two weeks. Alex Grinch, who was Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2018, was fired as USC’s defensive coordinator a week ago.
